Healthcare reform is once again among the many controversial topics in Washington D.C., and, as always, little movement is occurring toward a cohesive plan to provide more coverage for more people and to reduce healthcare costs.
President Obama has outlined eight key health principles that should be met in a revised U.S. healthcare system:

■Make health coverage affordable
■Aim for universality
■Provide portability of coverage

Naturopathic doctors, herbal healers, mind-body specialists, and acupuncturists often have been scorned by the US medical establishment, but growing numbers of Americans are seeking such care, and now an influential group of US senators believes the time has come to embrace an array of alternative therapies.
Senator Tom Harkin, an Iowa Democrat who is a longtime supporter of nontraditional medicine, is at the forefront of the effort to win insurance coverage for such providers as part ... Read More

Acupuncture reverses disease by referring not only to an organ or body part separately but also to its energetic connections and influences throughout the entire physical body. To an acupuncturist a liver means not only the organ under your rib cage, but also the energy channel or 'liver meridian' which runs from head to foot on both sides of the body.

Research reported in The Journal of Pain shows that ancient acupuncture meridians coincide with known myofacial trigger point regions, as described in the Trigger Point Manual, and may provide potential for novel approaches for treating ... Symptoms of temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD) consist of pain, limited mouth opening, crepitus, and a clicking sound.
Typically, treatment of TMD, a disease that negatively affects the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) or the surrounding masticatory musculature, is nonspecific, with a wide range of therapies, including physical therapy, chiropractic treatment, and acupuncture — not producing full results.
However, one study, titled “Effectiveness of Combining Manual Therapy and Acupuncture on Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction: A Retrospective Study,” investigated the combined use of manual therapy and acupuncture in treating ... Read More

After a bout with shingles last fall, Kennedy Williams has experienced lingering neuralgia, or nerve pain.
"First we tried medicine, and then we tried a cream and heat, but those helped some but they didn't take away all of the pain," said Kennedy .
She missed 50 days of her 7th grade year. Her doctors at Riley Hospital for Children suggested acupuncture.
"I kind of needed convincing," said Kennedy .
