Pain in Chinese medicine is simply caused by the blockage of the energy flowing through the meridian. These blockages can manifested from many sources: emotions, diet, external injury, internal disharmony, pharmaceuticals, and stress. All of these factors can do this individually or piled on top of each other into a complicated mess.

Acupuncture relieves these blockages by creating movement in the meridians to restore health. During a treatment for pain, needles are usually placed in the the local area of the pain, along the affected meridian, and/or other points to help create energetic movement in the affect area. The local points have the focus of removing and treating the blockage at it’s source. The work done along the affected channel have the focus of removing the blockage through cleaning the whole channel. The additional points that are general used have the focus of moving the energy systemically through the body. All this movement is done to relieve the affect area and others that might be lurking.
