Exercise is a treatment method of Chinese medicine. The exercise that is used in Chinese medicine is not the typical Western ideal. The exercise is used to strengthen the mind and body without the use of weight or resistance. The strengthening of the mind and body is done through various meditation techniques. These techniques have the ability to strengthen without damaging the body through high impact movements. The soft, gentle nature of these movements allows the body to stretch gently, and create a smooth flow of Qi through the body. These movements create an increased flow of blood and qi to all the organs of the body improving health and the immune system.

Tai Chi Chuan is becoming an acceptable form of exercise is the West. It is seen today as a good exercise for the elderly because of the low impact on the body. The health benefits have somewhat been accepted by the West, but unless scientifically proven many people will not see a reason pursue it. Tai Chi Chuan enhances the energy movement though the body by aligning the body in postures that allow the mind and body to connect and move Qi. The postures and slows movements of Tai Chi Chuan allow for better balance, reduce stress, improve the immune system, and clear the mind. This modality is under-subscribed in America, due to the lack in the quality of teachers and access to valid information.
